Autism and Communication

About
Multi-Modal Communication Supports for Autistic children with complex communication in the classroom
Communication difficulties in autistic children often lead to frustration, anxiety, and social isolation, impacting their independence and engagement. Individualised classroom supports are essential, but the wide variety of communication needs can make it challenging for teachers and teacher's aides to know how to best help.During this 1-day course, participants will develop their understanding of the communication and information processing preferences of autistic children. They will also explore different types of expressive communication supports across multiple modalities and, using a case study for a specific student they teach, will develop an expressive communication profile. This profile guides tailored communication support for students.
This professional learning is relevant to teachers, support staff, and child care educators.
