WA Eating Disorders Outreach & Consultation Service
PRINCIPLES OF CBT-E & FBT WORKSHOP
About
This workshop is suitable for ALL clinicians collaborating with people living with an eating disorder.
This one-day workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of two leading and commonly used evidence-based treatment for eating disorders in adults (Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy; CBT-E) and children and adolescents (Family Based Treatment; FBT).
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E) is a specialised form of psychotherapy focused on helping the person living with an eating disorder to change their thoughts & behaviours around food and eating.
Family Based treatment (FBT) is a therapy for eating disorders that involves family members in the recovery process and is particularly effective for adolescents and children.
This workshop is not intended as training in CBT-E or FBT. It is designed for health professionals who may be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with individuals who are receiving one of these treatment and who therefore require a sound understanding of what is involved in these treatment models.

- Transdiagnostic theory on which it is based and the evidence base for this treatment
- The four stages of CBT-E
1. Starting well and achieving early behavioural change
2. Progress review and planning
3. Tackling cognitive and behavioural maintaining factors
4. Relapse prevention
FBT
- Understanding of the thinking behind FBT, its key tenets and the therapeutic stance
- The three stages of FBT
- Weight restoration
- Transitioning control of eating back to the adolescent.
- Adolescent issues and finishing treatment.
