Josie and the Emeralds St Cecilia 2025 Orlando's Hand
About
Orlando’s HandJosie and the Emeralds celebrate the magnificent 17th century English composer Orlando Gibbons and present two world premieres by Brooke Green.
Gibbons was said to have “the best hand in England“ and his music touched Glen Gould, with its supreme beauty.
This is a rare opportunity to hear Gibbons’ sumptuous works for 6 viols including several of his Fantasies and the brilliant “Go From My Window”. Soprano Josie Ryan is soloist for some of his beautiful madrigals including “The Silver Swan”.
There will be two world premieres by Brooke Green. “Après (Afterwards)” received a Special Mention at this year’s COMA Composer Competition, Berlin. “Orlando Transforms” is semi-theatrical and depicts the moment in Virginia Woolf’s Orlando when the main character transforms from a man into a woman.
