The Chinese Museum has produced videos featuring the stories of Chinese Australians who served during World War I and World War II, as told by their contemporary descendants.A common thread among their stories is that, despite legislation that restricted their enlistment for service, Chinese Australians fought their way through these barriers and served their country at a time of greatest need. Many of them were awarded medals for their bravery and courage.
During World War I the brothers Tong Way – Hedley and Samuel – served in the signals and medical corps, with Hedley seeing action in France. Four Langtip brothers – Henry, Ernest, Bertie, and Leslie – saw action in the Middle East, including in the battle of Beersheeba.
During World War II, Darley Alwyn Quoy, served with the Air Force and was instrumental in forming associations that linked past and serving air force service people.
