Conservators at Large - Preserving Cultural Material in Unexpected Contexts

Join us for the first talk in the Heritage Skills Association Winter Warmer Talk Series.
Some of Australia's most significant cultural material can be found in unexpected contexts, cared for by corporations, councils and community stakeholders amongst others.
As a conservator who has forged a path outside of the traditional museums, libraries and galleries which are still home to many of the nation’s conservation experts, Claire will discuss her views on what defines cultural material in diverse contexts, and share details of some career defining projects.

About the speaker
Claire Rowson is a cultural materials conservator who has worked in a variety of roles across the cultural sector, within state institutions, government agencies and private practice. Her current role with International Conservation Services as State Manager takes her across WA, contributing her expertise to a wide range of preservation activities, from consultancy and advocacy to hands on remedial conservation treatments. She specialises in the conservation of metals, with a focus on public art, the built environment and industrial heritage.

This series will showcase a range of local heritage professionals shining the spotlight on WA heritage places, projects, current challenges as well as provide a chance to meet other individuals interested in or working in these spaces.
Anyone with an interest in learning more about heritage and our environment is invited to attend as well as those studying, working or looking to enter the industry.
This event series is run in partnership with the Heritage Skills Association endorsed by Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, and the Heritage Council.
