Its story is like a TV drama, linking the great violin maker Stradivari, Brahms, Joachim, Huberman, the Musikverein Vienna, two thefts, the Holocaust, "Schindler's List", the Israel Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, President Nixon; VP Hubert Humphrey, Norbert Brainin, the Amadeus String Quartet and finally (spoiler alert) Joshua Bell.
The music in this program reflects key timepoints in the history of this incredible instrument, thereby reminding us that we as musicians are merely custodians of our instruments, past, present and into the future.
