DNA Painter Workshop (Online)
So you want to start mapping your chromosomes – but how? Join us for this online seminar incorporating some practical exercises you will undertake to learn how to get the most out of DNA mapping.
The workshop will cover the basic features of DNA Painter and demonstrate the basics of chromosome mapping so that you can create your own genetic family tree. You will receive guidance on interpreting results and be shown some advanced techniques such as how to manipulate DNA match segments to reflect inheritance from an earlier common ancestor, resulting in a more accurate genetic map.
You will be supported to practice these skills during the workshop, with ample opportunity for Q&A.

This workshop requires attendees to already have a basic understanding of managing DNA matches and attributing them to a common ancestor. Participants must have an active DNA Painter account and have uploaded their family tree to the DNA Painter website. While a basic DNA Painter account is free it is recommended that participants subscribe to a full membership.
For some important background information, please read this introduction to chromosome mapping.
Participants are also invited to submit questions about any aspect of DNA Painter to the presenter via email no later than one week prior to the workshop.
You must have access to segment data which is not available on Ancestry. If you have tested on Ancestry, you can upload to MyHeritage, Gedmatch, and/or FamilyTreeDNA to access shared segment data.
To attend this workshop, you must have:
• An account with DNA Painter
• A family tree uploaded or entered onto DNA Painter
• A laptop or tablet device capable of a Zoom call and opening a spreadsheet
Numbers are limited and bookings are essential. Bookings close the Thursday before the session.
