About
Echoes of Us: Sonatas for Piano and Violin
Rio Xiang, piano
Cedar Newman, violin
Sonata repertoire draws two instruments and multiple voices into rich dialogue. Invariably, there are passages where one instrument leads; this holds true for most conversations. Like in good conversation, sensitive listening shapes the quality of the musical response. A Classical Sonata by Beethoven offers a driving yet light energy, while Franck’s Sonata encapsulates the drama and fantasy of Romantic composers.
