Trailblazing paramedic Alan Playford SC ASM NM HOSM will be at Newcastle Museum talking with writer and journalist Scott Bevan about his gripping new memoir Through the Rubble. It is an account of an extraordinary life, marked by the dramatic moment he emerged from the wreckage of the Newcastle Workers Club during the 1989 earthquake.Alan’s story is co-authored with business writer and journalist Penny Keogh and delves into his groundbreaking 40-year career which saw him on the frontlines of war-torn regions such as Rwanda, East Timor and the Solomon Islands, establishing the Westpac helicopter service in 1989 and displaying a calm under pressure in the 2003 Canberra bushfires.
