Vocalist Louisa Rankin and clarinetist Jason Noble come together as SPEL, a duo exploring the curious and abstract corners of fragile, playful, improvisatory music making. Their debut album was described as “a supremely human listening experience” (Jazz Valley). Hear their subtle, strange and soulful sounds unfold live in concert.
They are joined by Connor D’Netto, who will expand and contort SPEL’s soundworld with modular synthesisers and live electronic manipulation.
Between, hear the world premiere of Connor’s Some Kinda Way, in which Jason's solo clarinet line floats above and weaves through ten pre-recorded layers of himself. And to begin the evening, Jason plays Steve Reich’s iconic work for the same layered set-up, New York Counterpoint.
