First conceptualized by Freud as a force that “dominates the whole of each person’s relations to his human environment,” transference is now understood as the client’s way of making sense of interactions with the therapist through the lens of early relational experiences. It reflects unconscious patterns, defensive operations, and unmet developmental needs, presenting a microcosm of the client’s psychological life and the enduring influence of formative relationships. This webinar will examine the clinical significance of transference, its diverse forms and dimensions, and practical methods for recognizing and working with transference through targeted therapeutic interventions.

About Kris Rao: Kris is a psychotherapist & a psychoanalyst primarily providing long term therapy for complex trauma disorders. He is also a clinical supervisor for the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy (ANZAP) training program. He has a Master of Science in Medicine (Psychotherapy) and a Doctorate in Psychoanalysis. Kris teaches ethics & psychodynamic psychotherapy as adjunct faculty at universities and higher education institutions across Australia and New Zealand.
