Ready to dive into the world of scientific research? UWA Scientific Diver Course offers you the perfect opportunity to gain specialized skills while meeting the highest industry standards. Upon completion, you will receive an official Statement of Attainment from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and Diver Specialties certifications from RAID Diving, ensuring your training is internationally recognized.

Successful completion of this course certifies divers for all Scientific diving except high-risk diving work and is the general requirement for diving with UWA. Students and Staff wishing to participate in scientific diving with UWA require training and qualifications. The specific level of training you require will be determined by your: A) intended scope of diving work B) existing training experience. Divers who do not have adequate training, qualifications and experience are not permitted to dive with UWA.

This course is designed to not only equip you with the technical expertise required for scientific diving but also ensures compliance with relevant competencies from Australian Standard 2815.6 diver training. With our program, you can be confident that you're meeting the occupational requirements outlined in the Western Australian WHS Regulations 2022, guaranteeing safety, professionalism, and higher education scientific industry acceptance and numerous. Priority is given to UWA staff and students however this course is open to external parties please contact Starry directly 0457835527 to discuss course and fees including site locations accommodation requirements.

This is an intensive FULL TIME in person theory and practical course including physics, physiology, mathematics i.e. the sciences of diving, dive safety, rescue of self and others. The course uses combination of classroom days, mixed class and field and straight field days. Theory works include individual online modules individual and group workbook elements. In order to participate you must be willing to work in field conditions with limited amenities onsite. 8 to 5 onsite is a typical day. Late finishes where night diving occurs. Yes, after hours theory or assignments will be required.

Essential theory elements must be successfully completed prior to related practical dives - failure to successfully complete required theory by set time indicated by the instructor may exclude you from further participation in the course. Do not expect to do other work whilst on this course. Limited phone access - during break intervals.

The course involves but is not limited to: Pool dives, zero visibility diving, rescue scenarios, mapping, scientific techniques, full face mask dives, night and 30m dives in river and ocean environments.

As with all diving weather dictates viability and scheduling. Weekend diving and overnight in Busselton are likely required. Accommodation and food and water, travel to training sites is the responsibility and expense of participants’ i.e. UWA Crawley, Hillarys, charter vessel and over nights Busselton etc..

If elements of the course are not completed within three months of course finish date enrolment may be cancelled and repeat of course elements will be at additional cost to participants. (Exceptions where weather and/or instructor has prevented practical element completion).

Prerequisites:

All items will be reviewed on Active registration on UWA dive register Riskteq Including evidence of:

  • Current Australian standards Occupational Medical AS2299.
  • rescue diver (or higher) qualification from reputable agency.
  • 40 hours of logged dives.
  • Current First Aid and Oxygen Supply qualifications
  • diver competency & swimming competency.
  • Evidence of full “in-service” dive equipment as denoted in UWA procedures.
  • Committed, good attitude, willingness to work as a team to task fruition.

All divers are required to have ALL of their own dive equipment with service evidence.

Tanks and specialty equipment / full face mask will be provided.
