Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella follows Ella who lives with her stepmother, Madame, and two stepsisters, Charlotte & Gabrielle, and is forced into a life of servitude, with no end in sight. Similarly, Prince Topher, who has just returned from university, is to be crowned king soon, now that he is of age, and yet, no real understanding of who he is or how he is supposed to lead his kingdom. His right hand man, Sebastian, convinces him that a Royal Wedding is in order, and that a Ball will be thrown to find him a bride. With everyone excited in attending, Ella gets denied attendance by Madame. Marie finds her upset and fantasises with her about her wish to dream to attend the Ball.
Twisted with a revolutionary, protesting a system that benefits the rich, a girl who learns how to stand on her own two feet, and a fairy godmother with a pumpkin and a little touch of magic, a classic love story transcends time.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s enchanting adaptation of the timeless fairytale, Cinderella, was their only musical originally composed for television. When the television program, starring Julie Andrews as Cinderella, first aired in 1957, it was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium at that time. Since then, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella has continued to charm audiences in productions on stage and on television. Based upon the classic fairy tale, and particularly the French version Cendrillon ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s adaptation brings new life to the story of a young woman forced into servitude who dreams of – and achieves – a better life. Cinderella features some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.”Important: Please double-check your ticket purchase, including event date, time, and seating location as transfers and/or refunds may not always be possible.
