National Trust of Australia (ACT) 2025 Annual General Meeting will be followed by speaker, Mark Butz.With a background in earth science and ecology, Mark researches and writes about environmental and social history – essentially the way people re-shape landscape and landscape re-shapes people.
His topic is ‘The stories are out there!’: some reflections on harvesting community history '
Mark will share some of the perspectives gained from his historical research for interpretation media, articles and books, and from recording oral histories. This generates some thinking about why we might want to harvest community history, how we decide what (or whose) history is ‘important’, and what value community history offers to a very uncertain future.
