Join us for an exciting anniversary celebration showcasing the 1875 George “Grandfather” Fincham Pipe Organ, newly installed in the 1873 Lauriston Chapel at Langley Estate!This 150th Anniversary Gala takes audiences on a musical journey from Tchaikovsky to Handel and Haydn, with Grieg, Granados, Guilmant and more.
Built in Melbourne 150 years ago for the grand ballroom of ‘Findon’ in Kew—home of the Hon. Henry “Money” Miller—the organ was never installed there. Instead, it remained in Fincham’s Richmond factory, where a young Dame Nellie Melba practiced while taking organ lessons!
Now, 150 years later, this magnificent instrument has been restored by Daniel Bittner and his team at Australian Pipe Organs, sounding as glorious as it looks. The gold leaf on its pipes even traces back to the Bendigo goldfields of 1875.
