This program takes inspiration from the 19th century tradition of salon music: works composed not for concert halls, but for intimate social gatherings in the home. As housemates and friends, the performers offer a glimpse into their living room with works for flute and piano composed from 1940s Paris to modern-day Melbourne.
Dutilleux’s Sonatina, a cornerstone of the flute repertoire, is presented both in it’s original form and re-imagined by Melbourne based composer Robert McIntyre, complemented by works that capture the spirit of the salon.
Music by Sally Greenaway, Samuel Barber, Richard Meale, Sam Williams, Robert McIntyre, Takashi Yoshimatsu and Henri Dutilleux.
TICKETS $30 | $20
Online sales close at 7:30pm on the day of the concert. Tickets can be purchased at the door, dependent on availability. Tempo Rubato is a cashless venue.
