Discover the heartbeat of Balboa: musicality, connection & playful expressionThis workshop dives into musicality as the guiding force of your dance. You’ll learn not just what steps to do, but how to listen, respond, and play with the music both individually & together as a couple. We’ll explore how to interpret swing rhythms, accents, phrasing and syncopation in jazz, and how to bend the music through subtle foot embellishments, dynamic shifts, and micro-rhythmic variations.
We’ll look at exploring how movement possibilities open up when you loosen or tighten your embrace, add stretch or compression, or inject small “hiccups” into your timing. You’ll experiment with layering your footwork over the same basic pulse, stretching time, creating tension and release — all while keeping connection and musical integrity at the core.
Whether you love deep, quiet interplay or big rhythmic statement, this workshop will give you tools, confidence to dance with the music, not just to it.
