Introduction to Separation of Natural & Synthetic Gemstones (taught in MANDARIN) • 2-Day Weekend CourseLearn how to identify natural, synthetic and treated gemstones through practical hands-on gemmological testing.
This introductory course is presented in Mandarin as a foundation study of gemmology designed for casual consumers and collectors.
A significant portion of the course is conducted in the gemmological laboratory, giving participants practical hands-on experience with gemstones, instruments and testing techniques used in the trade.
The course aims to familiarise participants with the current gemstone market and explores the features used to identify natural gemstones, synthetic and treated gemstones, and imitation materials, together with the techniques and instruments used for these purposes.
Pre-requisite: NIL
Certificate of Attendance issued by the GAA NSW Division

– The relationship between the Earth and gemstones
– Geological environments and gemstone formation
– Properties and fundamentals used to evaluate gemstones
– How gemmological instruments are used to test gemstones
– Features of natural and synthetic ruby and sapphire
– Manufacturing techniques and identifying features of synthetic gemstones, doublets and triplets
– Synthetic opal, opal imitations and gemstone treatments
