Tim Ross presents the 2026 ACT Heritage Oration
About
Saving the SuburbsCelebrated design enthusiast Tim Ross is a child of the suburbs; in fact, it was in the suburbs that he fell in love with Australian modernism.
In this talk, he shares his views on why these varied Mid-Century and heritage houses are important and has a hot take on how they can be saved while we still create new housing in the ‘burbs.
Tim has long been passionate about Mid-Century architecture – a passion that saw him awarded a National Trust Heritage Award for Advocacy for his promotion and education of Australia’s legacy of modernist architecture. Tim hosted Streets of Your Town, a two-part ABC TV series about modernism, in which he journeys across Australia and around the globe to showcase and celebrate design marvels of this era. True to his passion, Tim and his family live in a 1959 home designed by architect Bill Baker, embracing the modernist aesthetics.
The Oration provides an opportunity for a prominent heritage leader and thinker to deliver an address aimed at raising awareness and stimulating discussion about the current state and future directions of heritage.
