How to write a piece of documentation - Oct 2026

About
This two-hour session guides educators through the process of writing clear, meaningful documentation that captures the richness of children’s learning. Rather than focusing on volume, the workshop highlights how to create purposeful narratives that show thinking, inquiry, relationships, and growth. Participants will unpack what makes documentation pedagogical, how to move from raw observations to insightful analysis, and how to connect learning to curriculum frameworks with confidence. Through examples, discussion, and guided practice, educators will learn how to notice what matters, distil ideas, and write in ways that are accessible for families and useful for planning. The session also explores common pitfalls, including overuse of photos, descriptive writing without analysis, and documentation that lacks a clear educational purpose. By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident shaping evidence into stories of learning that reflect intentional teaching and children’s capabilities.
