In its first concert of the year FCO presents a sparkling program of sublime music and heart thumping dance.Locatelli’s Il Pianto d’Arianna (the weeping of Ariadne) uses the fragment of a lost Monteverdi opera telling of Theseus’s abandonment of Ariadne. A solo violin sobs on Ariadne’s behalf. The final Largo, strewn with silences, eventually twists into the hopeful smile of a major key.
A contemporary of Mozart and Beethoven, Leopold Koželuch’s Symphony in G Minor is one of his most dramatic and mature symphonies.
Then Kashtany Duo Paul Wright (violin) and Myroslav Gutej (accordion) perform virtuoso instrumental versions of Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Jewish, Moldovan and Gypsy dances.
As a finale the the Kashtany Duo, FCO and the Roztiazhka Ukrainian Cossack Dancers for a thrilling performance of the Kubansky dance
