About

IWD EVENT 2026 Movie Revealed : Killjoy Fundraiser for Homicide Peer Network and Women Up North

Revealed: KillJoy offers a unique view of family violence in Australia.
The film tells of a Lismore mother’s death, a community's silence and a child’s journey to uncover the truth. Kathryn Joy was three months old when their father killed their mother. He served just 22 months and by age four, Kathryn was back living with him in the house he killed their mother in, with little knowledge of what happened to her.
Spanning over forty years, Revealed: KillJoy follows Kathryn from a child, into adulthood as they embark on a journey to uncover their mother’s buried story. Confronting psychological risk at every turn, Kathryn forms a relationship with their mother and builds a meaningful life as an activist.
The screening is part of a fundraising event on the day before International Women’s Day to highlight the unique difficulties encountered by young people who have had homicide in their family. It is a joint fundraiser for Lismore Women Up North and Grace’s Place.
The event will also include a panel including Kathryn Joy and producer Lisa Albert as well as local activists and therapists involved in ending domestic violence. Also, there will be an art installation kindly provided by Paulette Hayes.
WUN provides a supportive environment for women and children who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault or abuse. WUN also provides support for longer term accommodation, advocacy, crisis counselling and groups.
Grace’s Place is a dedicated facility with counsellors and staff providing tailored programs to help young people work through losing a loved one from homicide to trusting, believing in themselves and seeing a brighter future. Specifically needed are support groups for these young people but also adults who were impacted as children by domestic homicide.
Revealed: KillJoy is produced by Lisa Albert and Directed by Vincent Lamberti (Intervention: Stories from the Inside), with associate producers Kathryn Joy and Jess Hill (See What You Made Me Do) and Executive Producers Ivan O’Mahoney (Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra, Folau) and Adam Farrington-Williams (Under Cover). A Fringe Dweller Films production for Stan. Principal production funding from Screen Australia in association with VicScreen, The Post Lounge and Shark Island Foundation. Developed with assistance from Shark Island Foundation, VicScreen and Screen Australia. Stan Executive Producers are Cailah Scobie and Alicia Brown.
