About
The Royal Children’s Hospital Simulation Train the Trainer Program provides clinicians the fundamentals in preparing to become effective simulation facilitators and educators. This workshop provides participants with the underpinning knowledge, skills, and practical frameworks required to design and deliver high-quality simulation-based education.This program is designed for:
• Clinicians aiming to enhance their simulation based teaching and debriefing skills
• Educators and facilitators and involved in workforce training
• Professionals supporting onboarding, competency development, or continuing education
• Staff working in patient safety, quality improvement, or organisational training initiatives
• Individuals beginning their journey in simulation focused education
The two-day program covers foundational simulation theory, principles of educational design, and strategies for creating a safe, supportive, and psychologically secure learning environment and debriefing modalities.

Day 2: Debriefing, Facilitation & Performance Improvement
Debriefing Methods & Frameworks

• Advocacy–Inquiry (including structured tools)
• VEMS (Visually Enhanced Mental Simulations)
• Debriefing frameworks and structured techniques
• Exploring and Closing Performance Gaps
• Managing Challenging Debriefs
• Simulation Facilitation Skills
Day 3: Application Intensive (Optional):
This advanced workshop is designed for participants who have completed the two-day Simulation Train the Trainer Program. It builds on the participants foundational knowledge gained by day 1 & 2, by providing hands-on practice, expert mentorship, and structured peer feedback to further refine facilitation skills.
The program focuses on applying core skills in:
• Scenario design
• Applying a range of debriefing methodologies
• Understanding simulation technology components and moulage design
• Scenario design and refinement
• Applying a range of debriefing methodologies
• Simulation technology and moulage fundamentals
Interprofessional Scenario Participation
Participants rotate through facilitator, participant, and observer roles across three interprofessional simulation scenarios — including scenarios they may have designed during the program.
Tailored Coaching & Feedback
Throughout the day, each participant receives individualised coaching and structured feedback from the RCH Simulation Team to consolidate and elevate their facilitation practice.

Time: 8:00 - 17:00
Each program will host a maximum number of 12 participants. Please note that the session will only run provided there are six or more participants registered.
Participants may be able to claim CPD hours in line with their professional requirements. A certificate of completion will be provided.
