Print, Paint, Play – Gelli Plate Collage
About
Join Louise in this playful, hands-on workshop is all about experimenting, layering, and discovering. Using gelli plates and acrylic paint, you’ll create a collection of beautifully unpredictable printed papers that become the building blocks for your own collage. You’ll explore a variety of techniques using marks, stencils, textures, and found tools, learning how to balance spontaneity with intention. We’ll play with colour, pattern, layering, transparency, and composition, watching simple prints evolve into rich, expressive surfaces.
These printed papers can be assembled into a finished collage or enjoyed as a process-driven exploration in their own right. The emphasis is on curiosity, play, and allowing ideas to emerge through making rather than aiming for a perfect outcome.
No experience is necessary — just an open mind, a sense of play, and a willingness to experiment.

BIO of Artist Facilitator
Louise Graham describes her early painting journey as one where she seemed to find her artistic voice quickly, even before fully understanding what that meant. Over the past five years, through exploring new techniques and deepening her practice, she has come to see that her earliest works were already rooted in a strong emotional connection to nature.
Music plays a vital role in Louise’s creative process, acting as a source of feeling and inspiration — much like art itself, which has the power to move people in subtle and profound ways. She aims for her work to invite a second look, drawing the viewer in rather than explaining itself. Her love of abstract art stems from a natural tendency to notice patterns in everyday life — the play of light and shadow, the shifting forms of clouds, and other fleeting, transient moments. These are the qualities she seeks to capture in her work. Less concerned with representation, Louise allows what she sees — and where her hand leads — to guide the process, creating works that speak directly to the viewer.
In this workshop, participants will create a collection of beautiful papers that can be used to assemble a small collage to take home. These may become still lifes or focused studies of a single object explored through different papers and textures. Visual prompts will be available for those who prefer guidance, making the session ideal for anyone wanting to explore the pleasures and possibilities of collage in a relaxed, supportive setting.
