Melbourne Georgian Choir (MGC) - 2026

 

MGC sings traditional songs from Georgia in the Caucasus.
Georgian songs are noted for their sublime harmony, mysterious key changes and dissonance.
All singers are welcome to this musically adventurous and friendly group. Be prepared to to be patient and perseverant. Georgian languages are not easy and some of the notes you are required to sing might surprise you.

Musical director Krys Derwinski is a highly regarded Georgian music specialist and teacher who has led the choir since 2020.

2026 includes three terms of about 10 weeks each, rehearsing on Saturday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30pm in Clifton Hill UNO.

A weekend retreat in Malmsbury is planned for 19th-21st June. This is included in term fees except for food and accommodation.
A number of special events such as picnics, supras (Georgian inspired feasts), concerts and festival appearances are organised each year. MGC will perform at the Cygnet Folk Festival in January, the Castlemaine State Festival in March and the Nationlal Folk Festival ib Canberra in April. A two week tour of Georgia is planned for September.
