January School Holidays 2026
Visit the Ballarat Observatory this January and discover something new or perhaps something old!
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO CURRENT FIRE EVENTS ALL SESSIONS ON SATURDAY 10TH OF JANUARY ARE CANCELLED. Ticket holders will be contacted and offered a refund or a raincheck.
With Evening Sessions, AstroKids, Site tours and sunspot viewing sessions there's something for everyone! and Each session is standalone.
ASTROKIDS:
AstroKids Sessions are aimed at families with children aged 5-10.
What's on the agenda? Looking at historic telescopes, launching water rockets, Learning about how scientists use objects in space to learn more about the Earth. Asking an astronomer all your questions.
EVENING SESSIONS:
tour the historic site, listen to a presentation about how we learn about our home planet, Q&A with an astronomer, stargazing & night sky chats and telescope viewing. In case of cloudy weather stargazing and telescope viewing will be replaced by a virtual sky tour. Alternatively, a raincheck can be arranged.
TOUR
Experience a 30 minute tour of the Ballarat Observatory.
SUNSPOT VIEWING
chat with a local astronomer while safely viewing sunspots using the solar projection method.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
+ Minimum Numbers are required for sessions to go ahead. Participants will be contacted via email if the session is to be cancelled, refunds will be offered in such as case.

Sunspot Viewing: 3
+ All Children aged 0-17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult 18+.
