Introduction to Landscape Painting in Oils Workshop (CANCELLED)

Immerse yourself in the beauty of landscape and seascape painting over two inspiring days of oil painting with acclaimed artist Ron Bryant.Day 1 focuses on the foundations of successful landscape painting. Through demonstrations and guided instruction, you’ll explore composition and design, surface preparation, colour mixing, and practical strategies for overcoming common painting challenges and mistakes.
Day 2 is all about creating your own artwork. Bring along a favourite reference photo and paint a landscape, seascape, or scene of your choice, with Ron providing individual guidance and encouragement throughout the day.
Whether you’re curious about trying oils for the first time or looking to build confidence and skills, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to start (or deepen) your journey into landscape and seascape painting.
What to bring:
Paints:
Good quality oil paints are preferred: eg Art Spectrum, Winson & Newton Winton, Daler Rowney if possible. If you already have a collection of other brands, bring them along.
Titanium White
Lemon Yellow Hue
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Yellow Pale
Alizarin
Cadmium Scarlet or similar red
Viridian
Burnt Umber
Burnt Sienna
Ultramarine Blue
Cobalt Blue Hue
Brushes and other:
Cheap hog hair brushes
Long Flat – Nos 6,8,10
No 2 & 6 Round
Fan Brush
and any other brushes you may have.
Palette Knife: Pointed 6 cms (I’ll bring a selection for the class to use)
A dipper for fast drying medium, which I will supply, and a second dipper for low odour solvent similar to Gamsol
Please do not bring turps into the classroom. It’s OK to use it outdoors to clean your brushes.
3 x Canvas boards 12”x16” (30 x40 cms)
If you’d prefer to use Ron’s paints and brushes, please bring $50 cash on the day.
Please bring along a table easel, canvases, your palette, rags, ruler, pencil and note book
