MSWA Open Water Skills Clinic
MSWA presents the first Open Water Skills Clinic at South Beach, for 2026 coached by Kareena Preston.
Open to any MSWA member or community member interested in learning or improving their open water swimming skills and confidence. A minimum standard of being able to comfortably swim in deep water is a MUST! A lot of the skills that will be covered will be in shallow water, however, you will be practicing in water out of our depth. There will not be swimming excessively long distances – you will build your capacity over the weeks to get you confident.
Date: Friday 6th/13th/20th/27th March 2026.
Time: 5.55am until 7.00am
Location: South Beach, South Fremantle. Meet directly west (beachside) of the South Beach Café on the grassed area at 5.55am so we can begin on time. Your coach, Kareena, will be wearing a long sleeved blue “Coach” shirt so you can easily find her.
Price: $130 for the 4 week program
About The Program
During this 4 week series we will take you through the following (conditions permitting);
– Evaluating beach and weather conditions
– Wading, dolphining, catching waves (conditions permitting!)
– Correct sighting technique while swimming
– Stroke and breathing adjustments
– Turning
– Feeding techniques (if applicable to the group)
– Open water swimming etiquette
– Finish techniques for race day
What To Bring With You To Each Session:
– Swimsuit (rash vest or wetsuit if needed)
– Goggles
– Sunscreen
– Towel
– Water Bottle
– Keep Cup (for coffee afterwards)
PARKING
Parking is plentiful, however, please allow enough time to read the parking signs and purchase a parking ticket (free for 2 hours but parking ticket required and Rangers are active!)
NOTE:
There are brand new changeroom’s with cool water showers directly behind the café for those who need to go on to work after the clinic.
The cafe serves great coffee and breakfast options for those who would like to join Kareena afterwards. We will continue to chat about all things open water and swimming!
