Join visiting artist Benjamin Woods in a ceramic instrument-building workshop. An experienced teacher and artist, Ben will guide you through a fail-safe method for producing a playable clay flute.
Your ceramic flute will be fired after the workshop and ready to collect from Berninneit two weeks later. Ticket price includes all materials and firing.
This hands-on workshop runs for 2.5 hours and is suitable for adults and children over 12. Participants of all abilities are welcome, no experience needed.
Places are strictly limited – book early to avoid disappointment.
About the artist:
Benjamin Woods is an artist and researcher living in Naarm Melbourne. His sculpture and sound installation practice incorporates improvisation and place-based research.
Ben will present his new exhibition ‘Sound score for the sandy ghost shrimp’ at Berninneit Art Gallery, 18 July – 30 August 2026. We are also excited to welcome Ben to the Berninnet Art Studio in February as our first artist-in-residence, during this visit he will develop new work for his exhibition and present a workshop.
Ben holds a BFA Honours (2007-10) and MFA (2012) from the Victorian College of the Arts; and a PhD from Monash University, Fine Art (2018-22). He is a Lecturer at Monash University Fine Art and co-director of Run Artist Run (with Yongping Ren), a studio residency space in Docklands. Ben is a member of the Climate Aware Creative Practice research group (CACP), and the Australasian Queer Research Network (AQuRN).
In addition to his solo practice, he also participates in Tributaries collective and the collaborative project Lèlè.
