Seminar Sessions & Timings
Session 1 | 9:30am–11:00am | Reece Cummings (5th Dan) – Kobudo
Bojutsu Kumigata
An introduction to Arakaki no Kumibo, a structured set of seven Bo-vs-Bo partner drills designed to develop core kobudo skills. Participants will work through progressive exercises covering kamae (posture), ukekata (receiving), and semekata (attacking), before consolidating these principles in a concluding kata. This session provides a clear framework for understanding timing, control, offence, and defence in Bo training.
Session 2 | 11:00am–12:30pm | Alfred Le (3rd Dan) – Karate
Musō-Gamae: One Sequence, Many Possibilities
This session challenges conventional partner-drill thinking by exploring how a single sequence can be applied across multiple self-defence scenarios. Drawing on the signature motif from the kata Sochin, participants will use Musō-Gamae as a starting point to respond to a variety of incoming attacks, encouraging adaptability, creativity, and a broader understanding of kata-based application.
Session 3 | 1:00pm–2:30pm | Special Guest Instructor: Takafumi Nakayama (7th Dan) – Karate
Suidi Principles: Relaxation, Absorption, and Natural Power
This session explores an alternative approach to power generation based on relaxation, absorption, and efficient redirection. Participants will learn how correct body kinematics, joint movement, and well-timed relaxation enable effective defence, seamless transition between defence and attack, and powerful striking—even against larger opponents. The focus is on refining blocking through absorption, developing simultaneous defence and attack, and deepening understanding of karate as a complete martial art.
