History Festival - Mothers & Babies of the Destitute Asylum

Join us on Mother's Day at the site of the Adelaide Destitute Asylum Lying-in Home, where 1,678 babies were born between 1880 and 1909. A special curator's tour of the building has been arranged to remember the mothers and babies who were housed here.Experience touching, tragic and sometimes unusual tales of some of the unwed, widowed and deserted expectant mothers passed down by generations through state records, former staff, mothers and their children.
