Not a Book Club — with Dr Marion Kickett
About
The City of Perth Library’s Not a Book Club is an author in-conversation series for readers who love stories, ideas, and conversation—without the homework.
Hosted by the indefatigable Will Yeoman, this new series brings a mix of Western Australian favourites and touring authors for exclusive in-conversation events throughout 2026. With a blend of free and ticketed sessions, there’s something for everyone.
Our third event features Dr Marion Kickett discussing her new book, Nidja Boodjar Danjoo - Here on Country Together. Deeply personal, the book is a reflection and collection of stories from living on the York Native Reserve. Dr Kickett interviews both survivors who grew up and lived on the reserve, and those whose parents or relatives lived there.
Believed to have been a traditional meeting ground and camping place used by Dr Kickett’s ancestors, the area was later designated as an Aboriginal reserve. Under policies such as the Aborigines Act 1905 (WA), her grandfather was forcibly relocated there.
Light refreshments provided. Books will be available for purchase and signing on the night.
