Our speaker is The Honorable Pierre Yang, Lawyer and WA politician.
Pierre Yang’s presentation traces his journey from migrating to Australia at age 15 to becoming a member of the Western Australian Parliament, highlighting milestones such as his education, joining the Labor Party, local government experience, parliamentary roles, and military service. It emphasises how living between Chinese and Australian cultures shaped his values of service, resilience, and inclusion, and how his story reflects the broader strength of Australia’s multicultural society.
Pierre Yang, originally from Harbin, China, migrated to Australia as a student and became involved in public service and politics. He joined the Labor Party in 2001, expressing strong support for fairness and compassion, and served on Gosnells City Council before entering state politics. His career highlights include service in the Australian Army Reserve, acting as a liaison during the MH370 search, and holding various parliamentary secretary and whip roles. He has contributed to portfolios such as training, youth, water, health, and mental health. Since 2023 he has been Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health, Mental Health.
