Prosecution of Whistleblowers in Australia
Craig Andrews, co-convenor of Alliance Against Political Prosecutions (AAPP), will present details of ongoing political prosecutions of whistleblowers in Australia.
By exposing human rights violations, government wrongdoing and corporate misdeeds, whistleblowers make Australia a stronger democracy. But right now, whistleblowers in Australia face retaliation within their own workplaces. They continue to be sued by their employers for speaking out; some are being criminally prosecuted by the Government for telling the truth.
Craig Andrews will detail the cases of persecution of two prominent Australians, whistleblower David McBride and political prisoner military pilot Dan Duggan who are both still incarcerated. He will also briefly provide a recent history of the persecution and prosecution of Australian whistleblowers such as Julian Assange and Richard Boyle.
The address will cover the failures by the Australian justice system and the complicity of the powers behind the prosecutions.
Craig Andrews graduated in Earth Sciences from Wollongong University in 1984. He moved to London in 1990 and then Italy in 1991 teaching English. In 1994 he was sent to China for an 8 weeks technical language program and stayed for 10 years managing a large Training Centre which he morphed into a labour hire company.
Craig lived and taught in Japan from 2017 to 2021 and moved to Canberra in January 2022. He returned to Australia several times during his time in China, Vietnam and Japan.
In mid 2022 he became co-convenor of the Alliance Against Political Prosecutions (AAPP) with Kathryn Kelly and Marie Ryan campaigning for Julian Assange, Richard Boyle, David McBride and Dan Duggan.
There will be a question and answer session after this presentation followed by refreshments.
