Affinity Quartet has been praised by critics for their ‘emotional breadth’ and ‘flawless’ approach to classical and contemporary chamber music. Entering their second decade, 2026 promises to be another big year for the ensemble with a focus on collaboration with other exceptional musical minds.
This program title plays on ‘LIFT’ by American-Japanese composer and cellist Paul Wiancko. Affinity Quartet premières Wiancko in Australia with his 2016 string quartet. National Public Radio wrote, ‘If Haydn were alive to write a string quartet today, it may sound something like Paul Wiancko's LIFT’— and the New York Times, a work that ‘teems with understanding of and affection for the string-quartet tradition.’
AQ invites Australian violist based in Auckland, Isabella Bignasca, to join them for UpLIFT, which includes string quintets by Mozart and Brahms.
