Ceramic Art Burrows for Hobart Little Penguins
About
Join us on Thursday 23rd April for an afternoon discussion with a group of four unique individuals collaborating on an arts and science project in service of Hobart’s Little Penguins. The arts and science based cultural initiative was initiated in response to habitat degradation in an urban coastal environment. This cross-discipline collaboration is an innovative approach to enhancing nesting habitat for Little Penguins, engaging the community and fostering local environmental connection to Little Penguins in the Derwent Estuary, and promoting the benefits of artistic form and engagement in science-based projects.
The project group comprises four individuals involved in this unique collaboration – Katherine Johnson (writer), Peter Whyte (photographer), Ellie Green (ecologist), and Jane Bamford (ceramic artist). Katherine is a respected science journalist and award-winning novelist (most recently, Every Wild Soul). Peter is an international award-winning commercial photographer, with many notable environmental and conservation assignments. Ellie is a passionate environmental scientist with a background in hydrology and Antarctic, freshwater and estuarine ecology. Jane is an esteemed ceramic artist who is renowned for pioneering ceramic arts practice in collaboration with scientists for threatened species conservation.
