2026 Tactical Navigator
Welcome to our Tactical Navigator Course
You've mastered the fundamentals—reading a chart, understanding formats, and navigating confidently across different apps and tools. So, what comes next?
This course is about taking those foundational skills and turning them into practical, real-world navigation strategies. Whether you're cruising the coast or lining up for the next regatta, it's time to learn how to make smart, informed decisions that put your boat in the right place at the right time.
Once upon a time, passage planning meant dividers, a paper chart, estimating speeds, accounting for tides and sea state, and calculating ETA to plan for food, water, and fuel. These are still essential skills, but today, we combine them with powerful digital tools.
In this course, you'll explore:
- Pre-race/cruise planning
- Weather routing and tactical decision-making
- Contingency planning and “what if” scenarios
- Post-race analysis and performance reviews
And yes, we’re heading back into the classroom—because hands-on learning with expert guidance makes all the difference. Our instructors will be right there with you to ensure everything clicks.
We’ll be using Expedition as our primary navigation software. We strongly reccommend that you have Expedition installed on a laptop or tablet. You're welcome to bring your own tools or apps, but the demonstrations and examples will focus on Expedition, and other software may not have the same functionality.
