Presented by the IWCB Wind Symphony & AMIGOSS Association 4.00–6.00pm Saturday 27th June Musical Director: Joshua McNulty Guest musician, charango: Marco Fields The Inner West Community Bands and Amigoss Association are delighted to present this vibrant program of music by Latin American composers! Ancient and modern musical traditions intertwine in contemporary wind band compositions from Colombia and Peru, paying tribute to the natural beauty and the people from Amazon to Andes. Classical meets avant-garde in Danzón No. 2 by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, in his energetic treatment of the elegant Cuban dance form. Music from Astor Piazzolla's surrealist opera, Maria de Buenos Aires, showcases his tango nuevo style, while the Uruguayan favourite La Cumparsita exemplifies the conventional tango. The soaring Chilean folk music of Bordemar and Inti-Illimani, and the Brazilian choro song Tico-Tico no Fubá are reimagined for symphonic band.
