Sunday Sessions Jazz: Peter Locke Trio with Marilyn Mendez (SOLD OUT)
Sunday Sessions Jazz at The Hastings - Bowral Golf Club on Sunday 12 April features the Peter Locke Trio with special guest and long-time audience favourite Marilyn Mendez.
Marilyn’s smoky-smooth and versatile vocal style is “reminiscent of a night club piano lounge” (Down South Jazz Club Review).
The Peter Locke Trio was formed with the sound of Nat "King" Cole's trio in mind, with Peter on piano, and David Seidel on double bass and Brendon O'Reilly on guitar.
"We don't necessarily 'copy' Nat Cole as such but more attain that ambience in the sound of a tight, swinging trio. Remember of course that Cole's trio was the inspiration for Oscar Peterson's first trio - that is piano/guitar/bass. Everyone wanted to sound like Nat, even Ray Charles early on, was singing and playing like Nat Cole," says Peter Locke. "We do a few of the Cole arrangements but mainly we want to carry this trio forward with that 'sound' and just play hot swinging jazz."
The $35 ticket price ($30 for SH! Jazz members, $20 for student/child) plus booking fee is for event entry only, with reserved table seating. Space is limited, so book early to ensure your spot!
Food and drink is available to order at The Hastings Bowral. If you have any special song requests or seating preferences, please let us know when you book. Lunch is available from 12 noon with the band playing from 2-4:30pm.
