Dr Andrew Gregory, CMatP will present an online introduction to researchers and parties working in the materials space on intellectual property, outlining how innovations can be captured in different forms and the considerations for protecting a new development.
About the Speaker: Dr Andrew Gregory

Andrew earned a First Class Masters in Chemistry (Hons) from the University of Leicester, and went on to receive a PhD in Polymer Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. His thesis focused on the synthesis of various polymer architectures in supercritical carbon dioxide using controlled radical and enzymatic techniques.
In 2008, Andrew decided to move to a warmer climate and worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Centre of Advanced Macromolecular Design at the University of New South Wales. Andrew oversaw and coordinated several projects, primarily focused on developing new polymer vehicles for delivering platinum-based drugs. Following a career change in 2011, Andrew trained and qualified as a registered Australian and New Zealand Patent Attorney and is now a partner in the Sydney chemistry team with FB Rice.
His current work spans prosecution, coordinating patent portfolios, oppositions, searching and freedom-to-operate opinions, drafting, and strategic advisory services. Andrew provides advice to both domestic and international clients, utilising Australian and New Zealand practice to help with the commercialisation of his clients’ products. His client base covers universities to global companies in a range of technological areas, including pharmaceuticals, polymers, veterinary sciences, green technology, inorganic materials, and nanotechnology.
