About

When Jesus returned to the Father after his resurrection he gave his followers a great and significant charge:

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..."

Jesus instructed his followers to make disciples of all people, everywhere. This is because Jesus is the King of every nation and people and race, Jesus has been given all authority over not just the earth but the heavens as well, the whole of creation.

If we take the good news of Jesus Christ to all people, we will eventually find ourselves discipling people who are different from us, different socially, educationally, ethnically. As we do, we often find that what worked for us in communicating the Gospel and growing mature in Jesus, does not work so well with those we are different from us. There are cultural differences between us that become barriers to bringing the hope of Jesus to all people.

The Apostle Paul spent much of his life ministering to people who were different to himself. He was a Jew, but God had called him to be the Apostle to the Gentiles (non Jews). In his first letter to the Corinthians Paul outlined his strategy. He said,

"Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave of everyone, to win as many as possible"

This year at Reaching Everyday People Workshop we will be reflecting on how becoming a slave of everyone works out in our own lives and ministries as we seek to bring the hope of Jesus to all people. We believe becoming a slave of everyone is a significant principle to bridging the culture that can hinder the effectiveness of our ministries.

At Reaching Everyday People we have a particular focus on everyday people (those who have gone straight into the workforce from school) because they make up 70% of the Australian population but are missing in very significant numbers from our churches. For example, while everyday people between the age of 30-39 make up 60% of the population in Australia, in our church congregations they only make up 26% of members on average. The graph below shows the gap across the adult population in Australia. The principles we discuss with everyday people will be applicable across all ministries to people who are different from us.

We hope to see you this year at Reaching Everyday People 2026, either in person or online, to consider how we might effectively bring the hope of Jesus to all people.
