St Kilda Rocks
About
Following the PBS live broadcast, you can keep the vibes going with a special focus on two iconic St Kilda music venues - the Crystal Ballroom with the fantastic short experimental documentary (1980), Punkline, and the second ever screening of Last Drinks, a raucous doc looking at the last days before the renovation of the legendary Prince of Wales Hotel way back when in 1996. Both docs feature pivotal characters of Melbourne's live music scene that are heavy-hitters to this day. These films are rarely (if ever) screened and we are thrilled to be presenting both for a cinematic match made in heaven.
Not for the faint of heart but certainly for those nostalgic and ready to party - these documentaries are unfliching, rugged, fly-on-the-wall explorations of their venues in all their grime and glory, and fascinating time capsules for iconic periods of Melbourne's live music scene. Music lovers and historians all rejoice, this special screening is for you!
This session also includes a Q&A with the directors and producers of both titles bearing stories aplenty - all of which won't leave the walls of the Astor (of course).
