Two fabulous groups; one great afternoon of fabulous Folk and Acoustic Music!
Mar’yana Jaga Band’s create a powerful fusion of ancient Ukrainian melodies and contemporary electronic dance rhythms, creating music that is both deeply rooted and strikingly modern. Mar’yana’s expressive violin and vocals carry the soul of tradition, while electronic beats and cinematic textures bring an immersive, high-energy edge. Enriched by a multicultural dimension, Maharshi Raval’s Indian tabla and Handsonic rhythms add intricate global grooves, while Lucy Voronov’s cymbalom provides a shimmering link to Eastern European heritage.
Steel City Sue brings her own brand of ragtime industrial folk. Hailing from Newcastle, Sue wrote award-winning song Boom Town and is known for forging a new songbook for Newcastle & the Hunter.
The trio of multi-instrumentalists features the fearsome playing of Naomi Jones (Midnight Chicken) and Tim Merrikin (Coomba All Stars) and Sue all swapping out twin fiddles, banjo, Cajun accordion, double bass, guitar and loads of harmonies. Be prepared for raucous rags and a tasty mix of old-timey roots.
Sue recently recorded a new album in Wales with Mike & Katie West (Truckstop Honeymoon) titled the Red Zone launching in July.
