When a child has a disability, parents are often focused on ensuring they receive the support, understanding, and opportunities they need. But many parents also wonder: How is this affecting my other children?
This webinar explores the experiences of siblings of children with disability through both research and experience. While every family is unique, research provides valuable insights into the factors that support sibling wellbeing, strong family relationships, and positive long-term outcomes.
This session will move beyond myths and assumptions to offer a balanced and reassuring perspective on sibling experiences. Participants will gain practical strategies for supporting siblings to feel informed, included, valued, and connected within family life.
Participants will:
- Understand the range of sibling experiences when a brother or sister has a disability, and why there is no single “typical” response
- Recognise key factors that influence sibling wellbeing, including family communication, stress, and attention to individual needs
- Identify practical ways to support siblings to feel informed, included, and valued within the family
- Build confidence in responding to siblings’ questions and emotions in ways that support connection and reduce pressure within family life
This webinar is suitable for parents, carers, family members, and professionals who support families of children and young people with disability.
