Unable to join us in person in July? Illume Learning is thrilled to provide an on-demand virtual access option for two fanstastic professional development events presented by Dr Katie Novak.
Please be aware that these on-demand events are recordings of interactive in-person workshops.
Event 1 - UDL Workshop
Universal Design for Learning: Inspiring & Empowering Every Learner
✨ Light up your teaching practice with Dr Katie Novak at this all-new workshop proudly hosted by Illume Learning! ✨
Get ready to inspire and empower every learner with Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Whether you’re teaching in classrooms or leading professional development, this session is packed with bright ideas 💡 to help you design and deliver instruction that builds learner agency for ALL students. Explore the latest UDL shifts, discover how AI tools can supercharge your teaching, and create flexible, inclusive, and engaging learning environments that emphasize student-led workflows.
New to UDL? You’ll leave inspired and equipped.
Seen Katie before? This year’s session brings fresh content, hot-off-the-press resources, and hands-on strategies you’ll want to take back to your school immediately.
This session models UDL in action with inspiring stories, fun analogies, and ready-to-use resources to build more inclusive systems, scale the UDL magic, and empower learners to take the lead.
Perfect for educators and leaders, this is your chance to reimagine teaching, level up professional development, and ignite innovative practices that transform learning.
Event 2 - UDL Masterclass
Advancing UDL, SEL and Student-Led Learning
✨ Ready to go deeper with Universal Design for Learning? Join Dr. Katie Novak for an advanced masterclass that explores the next evolution of inclusive, student-centered teaching.✨
This session moves beyond the introduction to UDL and focuses on how educators can design powerful units, learning environments, and systems that foster learner agency, belonging, and independence. Participants will explore how Universal Design for Learning and social-emotional learning work together to create classrooms where every student feels valued, capable, and empowered to take ownership of their learning.
Through practical examples and collaborative design work, you will learn how to:
-
Design UDL-aligned units that maintain firm learning goals while offering flexible pathways for success
-
Integrate SEL and belonging into instructional design so students build confidence, identity, and collaboration skills
-
Use blended learning structures to increase flexibility, access, and independence
-
Shift from teacher-directed instruction toward student-led learning, reflection, and goal setting
If you've attended a workshop with Katie before or feel like you've mastered the basics of UDL - this masterclass offers all new content, tools, and examples designed to take your practice to the next level. Instead of focusing on what UDL is, we will focus on how to design learning that empowers students to lead.
