Bronze Medallion Course InformationStandard Bronze Medallion: Part-time course with weekly classroom and beach sessions for participants aged 15 and over.
About the course
This course equips participants with the core patrol and surf awareness skills required to take part in surf lifesaving operations. It is the foundational award for becoming a surf lifesaver at Coogee SLSC and across Australia. Participants will develop skills in surf awareness, resuscitation, basic first aid, and rescue techniques.
After completing the course, participants will be allocated to a patrol team and expected to patrol at Coogee Beach. This commitment is approximately one half-day shift per month.
Course fees
Participants aged 18 and over
• Book by 7 September 2026: $499.00
• Book from 8 September 2026: $550.00
Participants aged 15 to 17
• Book by 7 September 2026: $399.00
• Book from 8 September 2026: $450.00
Course fees include the First Aid course. If you already hold a valid First Aid certificate with at least 12 months remaining before expiry, please send it to admin@coogeeslsc.com.au to receive a $99 refund.

Classroom sessions: Tuesdays, 6:30–9:00 pm, 15 September to 20 October 2026
Beach sessions: Saturdays, 8:00–10:00 am, 19 September to 24 October 2026
Assessment Part A: 27 October 2026
Assessment Part B: 31 October 2026
Graduation: 1 November 2026
Participants must attend at least 80% of the course to be eligible for assessment.
Course prerequisites
• Be at least 15 years old.
• Complete a 400 m ocean swim in 9 minutes or less.
Refunds
• Participants who do not meet the 400 m swim prerequisite will receive a refund of course fees, less a $50 administration fee.
• Participants who withdraw due to a documented injury will receive a refund of course fees, less a $50 administration fee.
• Participants who do not complete the course due to low attendance are not eligible for a refund.
