Fiasco Quartet - From Hungary, With Love
Ian Chiao, violin
Lachlan MacLaren, volin
Lachlan McKie, viola
Boudewijn Keenan, cello
Join the members of Fiasco Quartet as they make their headline debut presenting works by Haydn, Kurtág, and Dvořák. Both traditional in its structure and unusual in its content, this program aims to capture the group's dedication to their craft and the boldness of their vision. The Hungarian flavour of the program stems from György Kurtág's Six Moments Musicaux, Op. 44. A suite of short character pieces, and the first complete work ever performed by Fiasco Quartet, this relatively recent addition to the classical oeuvre showcases the exciting expressive range of the string quartet. Haydn's String Quartet in D, Op. 76 No. 5, serves as a radiant apéritif, and also bears a connection to Hungary having been dedicated to the count Joseph Georg von Erdődy. In the concert's second half the group presents Dvořák's swoonworthy String Quartet No. 11 in C, Op. 61, a prime albeit seldom-heard example of sweeping nineteenth-century Romanticism.
