Bronze Medallion Course InformationStandard Bronze Medallion: Part-time course with weekly classroom and beach sessions for participants aged 15 and over.
About the course
This course equips participants with the core patrol and surf awareness skills required to take part in surf lifesaving operations. It is the foundational award for becoming a surf lifesaver at Coogee SLSC and across Australia. Participants will develop skills in surf awareness, resuscitation, basic first aid, and rescue techniques.
This course is for parents of Coogee Minnows who would like to assist with water safety and patrol activities.
Course fees
New Member Participants aged 18 and over
• Book by 19 January 2027: $499.00
• Book from 20 January 2027: $550.00
Current Member Participants aged 18 and over
• Book by 19 January 2027: $429.00
• Book from 20 January 2027: $480.00
Course fees include the First Aid course. If you already hold a valid First Aid certificate with at least 12 months remaining before its expiry date, please email it to admin@coogeeslsc.com.au to request a $99 refund.
Schedule
Information night: Wednesday 13 January 2027
Lead instructors: Doug Hawkins, Katrin Baldow & Sarah Flynn
Classroom sessions: Mondays, 7–9:30 pm, 1 February to 15 March 2027
Beach sessions: Sundays, 11 am – 1.45 pm, 31 January to 21 March 2027
Assessment Part A: 15 March 2027
Assessment Part B: 21 March 2027
Graduation: 21 March 2027
Participants must attend at least 80% of all scheduled sessions to be eligible for assessment.
Course prerequisites
• Be at least 15 years old.
• Complete a 400 m ocean swim in 9 minutes or less.
Refunds
• Participants who do not meet the 400 m swim prerequisite will receive a refund of course fees, less a $50 administration fee.
• Participants who withdraw due to a documented injury will receive a refund of course fees, less a $50 administration fee.
• Participants who do not complete the course due to low attendance are not eligible for a refund.
