History in a Coffee Cup - Misbehaving Women
About
Western Australia's convict past is usually told through the stories of men, but what about the stories of women? Although the colony never accepted female convicts from Britain, three women were nevertheless convicted within Western Australia itself. This talk uncovers their stories through the crimes they were accused of, the punishments they faced, and how they navigated a system that was not built for them. Historian Dr Emily Lanman will challenge what we think we know about crime and punishment in colonial Western Australia.Stay for FREE morning tea and chats after the talk.
