The next meeting of the AES Melbourne Section will be an online event held onMonday 17th August 2026 via Zoom.
It will commence at 7:30pm AEST with a brief Section Annual General Meeting which will feature reports from the Chairman and the Treasurer, followed by the election of Section Officers and Committee Members for the 2026/27 year.
Then at approx 7:45pm AEST Dr Rodney Staples will present on the topic of:
Editing in MP4 and Audio Synch Diagnosing and fixing audio synch problems
The topic introduces a brief overview of the construction of MP4 file structures and the difference between MP4 files and streaming MP4. A brief outline of MP4 compression leads to how the Network Abstraction Layer is constructed, and what this means for the packaging of audio and video within the transport stream, and what this means for audio synchronisation and the constraints for editing. Finally the presentation considers the relative merits of alternatives to using Zoom recordings as a source for capturing historical or real-time news content.
